Nightlife

Brighton Nightlife

Brighton has become one of the UK’s top nightlife destinations with a huge variety of venues. There are cocktails at Be At One and the Plotting Parlour, a traditional pub vibe with live music and a modern craft beer twist at the Quadrant, karaoke at Lucky Voice, and retro arcade games at the World’s End. Plus of course many clubs including No 32, PRYZM, Patterns and Volks Club. And don’t forget the gay bars, clubs and cabarets including the Queens Arms and Club Revenge.

We’d definitely suggest that any group on a Brighton short stay or holiday heads for the Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience, where you dress up in prison clothes and enjoy world-class cocktails. Or see what’s on at Komedia Brighton, whose programme includes live music, club nights and top stand-up comedy acts.

What to see and do

What to see in Brighton

Brighton definitely punches well above its size when it comes to things to experience. Brighton group activities cover everything, from crazy golf and fairground rides to games on the beach and foodie heaven. There are dozens of arcades, pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants along Brighton Seafront. But you don’t just need to drink, eat or gamble for the day as there are plenty of other options for Brighton group activities.

Seafront

Your group should definitely take to the sky in Brighton i360, with panoramic views from 138 metres. Other attractions around the seafront include SEA LIFE Brighton Aquarium, which is the world’s oldest operating aquarium, and Volk’s Electric Railway that runs all the way between the Aquarium and the Marina.

No trip to Brighton is complete without a stroll along the iconic Brighton Palace Pier. You can also buy a wristband for the pier’s fairground rides, including bumper cars and rollercoaster. If your group is feeling energetic there’s a zipline, basketball and beach volleyball courts (bring your own ball!) and paddleboard hire facilities (bring your own swimsuit!). Or why not hire bikes from Brighton Beach Bikes and ride along ten miles of uninterrupted cycle paths?

North Laine and The Lanes

North Laine is a vibrant area made up of a number of roads including Sydney Street, Kensington Gardens, Gardner Street and Bond Street. Every day here feels like a holiday or carnival, especially when it closes to traffic at weekends to make room for stalls, street art and street performers.

The shopping is diverse and eclectic. There’s everything from art galleries and antique centres to vintage clothing shops, upmarket boutiques and gift shops. When it comes to cafes and restaurants, whether your favourite is Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese or Indian to name just a few, you’ll find great authentic food. Traditional English food is here too, as well as specialist vegetarian/vegan cafes, bakeries and ice cream parlours.

Just a stone’s throw away is The Lanes, another famous Brighton favourite. Once again, there’s a bewildering choice of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants in its narrow alleyways. Just a five-minute walk from Brighton Palace Pier, even if your Brighton group holiday is just a couple of days you’ll have time for a visit.

The Lanes has an incredible mix of the old and the new. It’s home to Brighton’s oldest pub – the Cricketers Arms was built around 1545 – and the new Hannington’s Lane development of independent shops and fabulous restaurants.

Kemptown

Head east along the shore and you come to Kemptown. We think of it as ‘more Brighton than Brighton’ due to its even more chilled out and inclusive character. It’s why Kemptown was included in Time Out’s Top 50 World’s Coolest Neighbourhoods in 2021.

It’s a great place to hang out, with elegant squares on the seafront and wonderful green spaces to relax in. And as with North Laine and The Lanes, you’ll find independent shops, delis, cafés, restaurants and pubs. Head for St. James Street and St. George’s Road and you’ll be in the heart of Kemptown.

Kemptown is also home of Brighton’s Pride celebrations each summer. And if yours is an especially adventurous group, the naturist beach is just a little further along the shore.
